But I think we are still in the minority. But if the season starts slipping away, which it feels like now, it may make more and more sense.
Really tough loss to South Dakota. Not that they aren't a good team. But under Coach RP Mizzou earned a reputation for taking down really good top 10 teams in Columbia like Miss State, Tennessee, and SC over the last few years. Now we are unable to beat top mid majors on our home court. Very disappointing.
There are a lot of problems with this years team that are becoming more apparent even just 11 games into the season. The transition to a small ball offense, made necessary in large part by the loss of Kayla and Jordan F. to graduation and Cierra P. to medical retirement, is muddled at best. Sophie is underperforming in nearly every category from last year, with the exception of Amber Smith the upperclassmen who should be helping to stabilize things are not stepping forward consistantly (Aldridge, Schuchts, Chavis, Roundtree), and the highly touted freshmen are really struggling (Berg, Troup), or fighting their way out of the doghouse (Levy). And you can see the team pressing too hard, particularly when they start missing shots. Kind of a perfect storm.
Lots of basketball yet to be played, and opportunities for significant wins to achieve a decent seeding situation in the NCAAs. But with each game it's getting harder and harder to seeing the path to that.
