then perhaps it would have inspired people to figure out more efficient ways to plant crops and harvest them, especially when people realized how lucrative cotton and tobacco could be.

Maybe there would have been a rise of entrepeneurs that accelerated agricultural methods and started new industries to take advantage of them.
