the real weight loss shift I was able to pull off didn't come from running at all, it was about diet with daily ab work and upper body work. Running/aerobic is important to mix in some also, but you pretty much have to "carb up" some to do distance running or else you can't go far period. Hence it is mostly just good for maintaining your current fitness level in a healthy way, but it won't really help you drop a bunch.
