There is a history to Pontius Pilate. He was a bad-ass, prone to violent suppression. In many of the books I have read on the subject, Pilate's use of the crucifix as a means of terrifying the local population is well-documented. Bodies were not buried but left to rot there on the hill and be consumed by what A.N. Wilson called "the dogs of Calvary". Now it may and it may not be the case the Joseph of Arametha bribed Pilate to acquire the body of Jesus. Joseph was a rare follower who actually had money. Otherwise there is not much of a body to bury. The BODY was the point of the crucificion. Step out of line - that will be your body left to be torn apart by the dogs. It was so effective, Pilate used it alot.
