though about tenure in my 25+ years of teaching. The only effect tenure has ever had on me is that I only had a formal evaluation every three years instead of twice a year. Good teachers never think of tenure and bad teachers know it does not really matter.
Tenure only guarantees due process it is not the permanent get out of jail free card many believe it to be. Tenured teachers can be fired just like the non tenured ones. The difference is that a non tenured teacher can be let go at the end of a contract for no reason what so ever. For tenured teachers there is a process that includes creating a paper trail to show cause.
Kansas eliminated tenure two years ago to much wailing and gnashing of teeth from the teachers. Do you know what impact it has had so far. Absolutely none. My school is exactly the same today as it was with tenure.
