getting at the meaning of collateral damage and whether their intentional targeting qualified them as "collateral."

And as barbaric at it is, the killing of innocents tends to break the spirit of enemies. This has been seen from genghis kahn to boko haram.

The bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki ended the war more quickly than otherwise.

I wonder if the "surgical strikes" employed in modern wafare and the attempt to play by the rules actually prolongs wars....especially when the combatants don't wear uniforms.
