and completely absurd. To pretend that civilians are not part of a war effort is crazy. Without the military equipment and logistical support coming out of cities like Nagasaki and Hiroshima the Japanese military would have been unable to fight the war.
When you declare war, back when we actually declared them, you do so against a country not just the military. Even in toltarian and fascist states the military requires the support of the civilian population. That makes those civilian populations valid military targets.
