Basically the beat writers are just riding on the backs of the actual talent evaluations being done by the high major programs.

Honestly if Bama, Ohio State, Florida State and Clemson all want the same guy, chances are he's going to be pretty good.

It also seems like the top 5% or so of the high school talent could be fairly obvious. It seems like most of the "misses" would obviously be in the 3 * range.
