Saint Louis University men's basketball head coach Lorenzo Romar today announced that assistant coach Randy Bennett has resigned to become head coach at St. Mary's College in Moraga, Calif. Bennett will be introduced at a press conference this afternoon at St. Mary's.
"Randy is one of the most under-rated lead assistants in the country, and he has been ready for this opportunity for a couple years now," Romar said. "He's probably best known for his recruiting skills, but he has the whole package - sideline knowledge, teaching ability in the practice gym and the ability to relate to players and people in general. He has a great future."
Bennett's mission is to resurrect the Gaels' program that was 2-27 overall in 2000-01 and 0-14 in the West Coast Conference.
"I enjoyed two great seasons at Saint Louis, because of the school itself, our student-athletes and the people associated with the program," Bennett continued. "Our C-USA tournament championship run was one of the great moments in my career. With Coach Romar in charge and the talent on hand, there's no question that the Billikens are going to be in great shape."
