"He played a big role," Goodwin said. "Coach Tate coached me two years. Put him and coach (Travis) Ford in one pot and you've got a good match. With coach Tate being the person he is and going to SLU, it made a big difference."
"I'm not being cocky but with the team we've got — and hopefully we get a few more guys looking heavily at SLU — I think we can easily make the (NCAA) Tournament," Goodwin said.
Goodwin said he has paid attention to the recruiting work by Ford thus far and also has been impressed by his development of players, especially at Oklahoma State.
"He coached Marcus Smart, who is somebody that plays similar to me," Goodwin said. "He's probably the most hands-on coach in doing workouts with his team and his players. He puts players in the (NBA). With him being at SLU and in a rebuilding stage, it's just the best fit for me."
