Jews. It was common in the world around Israel/Judah to treat women as property of the father to be sold. They were not unique in this.
Many Christians throw out the term Biblical marriage when going after homosexuality, yet would reject how marriages were in the Bible.
A man having multiple wives was not considered adultery for example. Adultery was having sex with another man’s wife, his property. There were no Biblical grounds for divorce for a woman whose husband was unfaithful to her.
