It’s not typical that a coach is fired during the season unless there is some kind of scandal and misconduct, which is clearly not the case here.
I’m just frustrated and looking for solutions which don’t in effect throw away another recruiting cycle, making the rebuild that much tougher.
This is a truly unique situation where a coach at a P4 school is allowed to have their contract simply run out and everyone knows she is gone. If affects the morale on the team, and affects recruiting (both high school and portal) in a huge, negative way. We can agree or disagree on how we got backed into this corner, and whose fault it is, if anyone’s.
I’m just reaching for ways to start the rebuild quicker, and not lose another recruiting cycle. Pingeton seems to be making only a half hearted attempt to recruit now, and frankly, why should she? She knows she’s gone.
I like what someone else said in this thread, maybe announce Harper as the new coach for 25-26, and give her some authority to start representing the Mizzou WBB program on the recruiting trail. Would that be awkward, with Pingeton and her staff stumbling though the rest of the season? Yeah it would. But maybe we should be thinking outside the box at this point.
My suspicion is that Veatch is going to follow the Alston playbook, announce nothing until the season is over, and in doing so, even if he makes his hire the day after the season ends, kick away yet another requiring cycle and make the next coaches difficult job even tougher.
