Do you know how many semi pro leagues have been attempted and failed over the past just 30 years? A bunch.
Why? Lots of reasons but the main thing is it takes a very well oiled machine to pull off all the moving parts that it takes to do it.
Even the biggest name schools aren't gonna wanna stick their necks out if the potential to go tits up is present. Right now schools can move between conferences and negotiate for more money and such as a collective unit while relying on the NCAA to take care of pretty much ALL of the rest of the administrative work.
They bust out all on their own they have to setup pretty much an identical structure, hiring all new people, do all of this work all on the idea that it MIGHT be better.
As the saying goes.. the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
