that overextending a freshman’s playing time is
1) going to get him to stay, or
2) going to get him to develop any more than the nearly daily practice sessions
Mark Mitchell got plenty of PT at Duke his first two years. He’s transferring because someone’s coming in who will take those minutes and/or he will play a different role at MU.
I would bring in talented freshmen. Let them develop in practice and play an amount appropriate for their level of development relative to the rest of the team. Show them the path to being a great player.
If they leave, they leave. But I wouldn’t play them hoping that will incentivize they will stay. I’m playing to win.
