Butler may eventually be a more skilled offensive player but his defense and rebounding are still pretty lacking and he has a ways to go offensively. As many have noted, most centers take a long time to develop.
I think Gray provides more of a practice challenge for the other young centers than Butler would have. And in the SEC, Butler just wasn't strong enough against some of the better centers. Maybe he will get there eventually, I hope he does.
