I believe the problem is Young moreso than Gates

It appears from watching the games Young runs the defense and is primarily responsible for the foul disparity.

I understand the two are buddies but Gates would be wise to bring in someone else to coach the defense and make Young recruiting coordinator and not courtside during games.
