Does it happen across the nation? Definitely.

But when it happens outside of metro areas it is shocking.

I am in my 50's and have never personally known someone who was murdered.

I am currently sitting in an urban classroom full of 16-year-olds. How many of them do you think know someone who has been murdered?

For vast areas of America, murder is something that happens infrequently enough that it is not really part of our lives. For certain areas, it is a part of everyday life.
