We usually pumped 2700-3000 gallons on the evening shift and we always looked at how many they had on the day shift, which was a little less. The record (that I was there for) was 4,200 gallons in the evening shift, which was Dec 23. We actually ran out of gas and they had to order an emergency delivery for Christmas Eve. The station was at an intersection of two of the business roads in St. Louis county and was very busy.

His biggest expense had to be electricity. There were tons of lights and that ain't cheap. Shell was responsible for the pumps themselves, he only had to maintain the hoses and nozzles. The building was leased from Shell, and there would certainly be a cost associated with that. And the staff expenses are very easy to calculate, those are very solid.

He made out just fine.
