did say they were getting married for the greater good, then that would make me cringe.

A voluntary commitment to another person "for better or worse" is not the same as having your property, liberty, and possibly life taken by the decisions of distant, unaccountable bureaucrats in the name of a vaguely-defined, ever shifting, and subjectively interpreted "greater good".

So, no, I don't cringe at that. I think that's a really lovely sentiment.
