I understand your assessment. My interpretation is that mask mandates don't work, to which I think there are plenty of evidence, and use of masks is unknown. I do think there is reasonable evidence (mostly in vitro) that does suggest that when you are sick (or able to spread virus via aerosol), masks can reduce that spread, with likely differences among masks, viruses, etc.
