He would have rather finished his career at CMSU as a local coaching legend rather than floundering in Pittsburg, KS and effectively being banished from MU. He went from always wondering if he could do the MU job to knowing conclusively he couldn't.
There is a perception that I have something against him personally, when in reality I agree with you he is a good dude and was certainly a great player at MU. Its a shame his legacy came to this. If he had walked away after the first season when the realization hit that he couldn't do the job I would have never spoken/written a harsh word on his behalf. It was perfectly reasonable for him to accept the job when Alden moranically offered it to him. My only point of contention was remaining on for 2 more seasons to drive the program into the ground, and at some points it seemed he had selfish and malicious intent instead of just overwhelming incompetence.
