He's appealing to moderates like me (I lean left, but I'm not a leftist by any stretch), and because of that he was appealing to moderates who lean right too. But he was not a qualified candidate and he ran a terrible campaign. Twice. It was a shame because policy-wise he was much more appealing than extremism on either side of the aisle. Holcomb is a moderate too, relatively speaking, so it's been okay... even if I am not a big fan of some of his policies.
