You do understand the police departments operate at a disadvantage in this area? Release everything and they are accused of biasing people and any court case could result in a mistrial.
But the public's video, often completely edited and with snippets taken out of context (and often with their own biased soundtrack) can be used by the media ad nauseum to try an officer in the court of public opinion before a case ever goes to trial.
