Drink is a lot smarter than Odom.
Drink has a more energetic personality.
Odom was an OK recruiter, but he was not a good enough coach to offset that continuum. Recruiters of his level can succeed if they are great coaches, but if they are mediocre or poor coaches it does not work.
Odom initially hired some quality assistants, but some left and he caught a couple of bad breaks with some of those departures.
The players liked/loved Odom, but they did not respect him enough. Respect has an element of fear in it. He was their boy, not their boss.
In videos from only a couple of days of spring practice, we saw a team of players that were used to a more lackadaisical approach, and Drink was pushing them hard. Hopefully this means a new focus and attitude on the team.
Drink might not be successful, but the elements for some hope and some positive expectation are there
