Yes, that brings into question both his motive for the report and his knowledge of what was being reported.

If I have no actual knowledge of a crime and I have a vested interest in the case investigators would throw me out of their offices before I completed my first sentence. But we are supposed to accept that this guy was a legitimate whistleblower and therefore protect his ID. Nope, get him on the stand and question him about his motives and where he aquired his information.
