I think 10 team conferences would be best for football

12-16 for basketball.

I would still go with 12 game regular season (or you can do one preseason turd game, plus 11 real games).

Playing everyone in your conference would actually show who the true champion is...maybe make rival games play at a neutral sit to balance home and away.
