Several years ago the postal service closed a number of small town post offices in NW Mo., while curtailing the hours of many others. In the interests of efficiency they also required all local mail to be sent to the KC regional facility for sorting and routing, even if it was addressed to another local or nearby address. In other words, if the sender and recipient were in the same small town, the mail was required to take an extra trip to KC, before delivery across town. I have discovered that it takes about ten days for locally addressed mail to be delivered. Had this policy not been in place, my mail would have been properly handled by the local post office and delivered on time.
