The NBA can say they're interested in protecting the health of young players - and man they should be as it should only take one or two times that you sink $6 million in a kid and get zero games out of him for 2 years. But I just don't see the discipline from a group of owners who seem content to chase free agents year after year.
Ideally, the NBA would have a development pyramid system like global soccer -- but the only way that can work is to build in the revenue structure that fuels it: teams have to be able to "sell" players that they develop to other clubs or even to other leagues. There has to be a global market for young talent.
I don't see a model where the NCAA game can remain a viable component of that developmental pyramid.
