He likely believes he can recover fully and will become a top tier NBA player. If that is a strong belief, he may lean to stay another year to ply with Jontay and to prove it to NBA teams to become the top draft pick.
If he's not so confident in that happening, he'd obviously be smart in taking the money as top ten pick right now, regardless of how much he'd like to stay and play with Jontay.
