His intention all along was to play one year and enter the draft. A big part of that motivation is money. If it was all about the experience and becoming a more well rounded individual, he'd put off the NBA.
From everything I've heard about MPJr, he has big plans for what he wants to do with the money - and those plans are significantly impacted if he falls out of the Top 5 and toward the Top 10 or lower. And his value to the Shoe companies falls until and unless they see a return to his high-flying style of play.
The tough part for MPJr is that the weaknesses that scouts saw in his game before the surgery -- a lack of explosive quick-twitch ups, lack of overall strength, etc. -- are exasperated by this particular injury which includes nerve damage. Very difficult to rehab nerve reconnection - really only time can do that.
