It's pretty complicated, which is why I've always rejected the idea that players in his position are stupid if they don't take the money when they can, or even worse the idea that by going early he's getting an extra year total.
There are so many variables in play. He could make more on his initial contract if he waited a year. Maybe that's a negligible amount. Maybe it's a lot. Maybe he'll make so much over the course of his career that it won't matter. Maybe he won't.
The only thing that's certain IMO is that if he leaves, he can never regain the experience of being a college athlete with his brother. For a lot of people, the college experience is priceless. For a lot of high-level basketball players, it isn't. Their dream has been to play in the NBA.
