Every day thousands of people of all races become the first in their family to do those things. They remark about it and keep moving up.
Why is that Latinos and Asians are not infatuated with their ancestry? My wife is Latina and she cherishes her heritage, her language and her connections to friends and family through her heritage, but it's part of her life, not all of it.
She doesn't understand black people for the most part and she specifically does not understand the infatuation with so many negative things...drugs, one parent households, not finishing school, gang violence. She thinks much of the black plight could originally be blamed on racism, but now most is self-inflicted. We agree on that.
