it's the minimum time to see the impact of recruiting - even that's a stretch IMO. It used to be 5 years - that allowed you to judge a coach on his first full class after a full year of recruiting and a full 3 to 4 years of development.
No one expected Larry Smith or Bill Snyder to turn it around in 3 years.
But other factors are at play now compared to the past - Sterk is building a SEZX and trying to sell premium seats while at the same time building a base of young fans and life-time grass-roots level TSF supporters. MU is competing in the SEC where you can get buried quickly but can also get well quickly because it is the best athletic conference in college. And finally, Sterk didn't hire Odom and is not professionally attached to him - UNLESS he brings him back for a year 3.
