It's not just the football program that is in a turnaround rebuild, the whole university system is in the middle of it.

The cs1950 phenomenon was not unique to mu - just look at the rest of the academic world. And enrollment challenges as a fact of life for large universities is not unique to mu. MU was and is on the front edge of these national trends - political correctness driven by identity politics in collision with a consevative majority and demographic shifts intersecting with a higher education bubble.

We hit the front end of both waves and now the whole system is rebuilding out of it, including both major sports programs.

Thankfully we're in an athletic conference where turnarounds are possible when administrations and fans are committed to it emotionally, structurally and financially.
