There hasn't been any coaching news lately because every job of any consequence has been filled, and it's been that way for weeks. It's like this every year. By about April 5 or so, the coaching carousel slows down considerably.
For a major conference school to lose their coach on April 18 is rare. Having an opening at that late date deflates the pool of potential hires. You've missed out on the coaches who wanted to leave their jobs, most notably in this particular year Cuonzo Martin. Clearly he wanted out of Tennessee. Think the Mizzou job would have been a preferable landing spot to Cal?
What may be taking place around April 18 is a mid-major school that's lost its coach to a major program might still be in the market for a coach. That was the case here as Tulsa still had an opening after losing Danny Manning to Wake Forest. But it's very unusual for a mid-major program to fill that opening by creating one in a major program.
What do you think was the general reaction of the coaching community around the country? Perhaps something like, "Damn, Missouri must be in worse shape than I thought if Haith is volunteering to give up that job to go to Tulsa." That's not exactly the kind of sentiment that leads to a bountiful pool of coaching candidates.
Don't discount how the timing and destination of Haith's move contributed to Mizzou ending up with a less than desirable coach.
