I sometimes wonder what would've happend had Alden extended

Haith's contract rather than keeping him in limbo that last year.

Had Alden extended him, he would have been able to recruit, and it's not like he was a train wreck when he was here. The dude won a lot of games and had things going in a pretty good direction.

I'm not one to look back on the Haith era with nostalgia, but there's certainly a decent amount of "what might have been" there to make it interesting.
