What you were envisioning as a huge embarrassment and a colossal failure at that time couldn't have reasonably approached what played out in reality because our frame of reference and benchmarks for judging that hadn't yet been adjusted to such absurd levels. At that point winning 23 games that year and making the NIT was considered a rather large failure and embarrassment.
