Land absorbs more energy from the sun than water does. Think blacktop vs your pool.
The air on land does warm up faster because the land is warmer. The air on water is cooler because it absorbs less (also has to do with specific heat capacity).
But the point is, if the globe is warming (it is, regardless of what you think the CAUSE is), then why would the air, which circulates around the world, not also warm up the sea surface?
