i.e. the kid who knows that a school will always make room for him should definitely not sign a NLI.
But what about the next level kid? Not unusual at all for a program to say, "We're taking 1 more LB - first one to grab the spot get the scholarship". If that kid wants to go to Alabama or MU then he better sign that NLI and lock in the scholarship.
