without impacting eligibility, their course of action is quite simple: do not sign a NLI and do not accept an athletic scholarship.

The NCAA will allow a walk-on athlete to transfer and be immediately eligible as long as they were not on athletic scholarship at their previous school and were not a "recruited athlete" by the school to which they are transferring. In order to avoid being classified as a "recruited athlete" by the NCAA, the student-athlete should only communicate with coaches via email. In person or over the phone communication constitutes a "recruited athlete."
