Your comment here on private police is an example of operating from a false assumption, as I've mentioned.
Police services are no different from any other good or service. We don't know what exact form the free market would come up with, but we can be certain the efficient model will be rewarded through open competition.
"What about competing police forces with different employers?"
What about them?
What "ramifications" are you concerned about? What are the "obvious issues" you think exist?
And fyi, the State's police don't answer to "the people".
