That same team (+Bowers and Safford) lost 5 of their last 6 games the year before and were nearly universally considered a disappointment. They were considerably better coached that season, hence the results.

What you can't build a program with is a subpar coach, which we have. Even if we had adequate talent, its not a recipe for success.
