many don't quite grasp properly. It is not that we are all fine and dandy, and if we don't select properly we are damned. Because of our innate sinful nature, we are born damned. We are in the burning house already. In Christ Jesus, we are given a ladder to take us out of that house. It is the verse right after the very well known John 3:16 that spells this out:

"For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:17

Jesus did not come so that a bunch of innocents could be damned. He came to offer an out to a world already damned and with no hope.
