When the NCAA tourney expanded to 32 teams, starting in 1975-76 MU made 6 of the next 8 NCAA tourneys. The two times they missed it, they finished 2nd in the Big 8.
Starting in 1985-86 when the field had expanded to 64 teams, MU earned bids to 15 of the next 18 NCAA tourneys before Quin temporarily cratered the program. After Mike Anderson had rebuilt it to a normal level, it proceeded to make the next 5 NCAA tourneys.
MU had averaged 25.5 wins per season the prior 6 years to Kim’s arrival, made 5 of 6 NCAA tourney's with an NIT appearance, with an average conference finish of 4.3, had recieved 5 First team All Conference selections, had received 14 total All Conference selections overall, and put 7 players in the NBA either via draft or free agency during that 6 year period.
