Coinciding with MU making a bold decision to strive for excellence and being gifted a level of resources and exposure beyond anything we previously had at our disposal with our conference move, MU simply decided to de-emphasize the sport and give up on competing nationally and/or striving for excellence.

It should be rather difficult for MU to not finish among the top 4 of the SEC in men's basketball on a year in year out basis if it puts a rather reasonable amount of effort and resources towards it. It is certainly something as a program we could consistently challenge for league titles in if we wanted to. But for whatever reason, we just don't. We probably have a lower commitment to the sport now than any current SEC or Big 12 conference member.
