I have some connections to Goodwin and fairly early on it was clear that he had considerable interest in staying home and playing at SLU. However with Crews and the team tanking, that looked like a long shot. When Ford was brought in and focused all of his efforts on Goodwin and the Eagles, he was back on board with the possibility of staying home and playing at SLU. I had always heard that he and his family were not real high on Illinois, so I think the recruiting "experts" got that one wrong, but he was really high on Northwestern. When Tate was hired by SLU and with Ford continuing his full court press and selling him as being a point guard at SLU in the mold of Marcus Smart, he was sold.
