Crews was an assistant under Majerus and then when Majerus got sick he was given the interim head coaching position. After that season in which they had a historically good season with Majerus' players, he was given a 5 year contract to lead the program. He had considerable success in year #2 (year #1 of that contract) again with Majerus' players and then essentially hit rock bottom the following 2 seasons when the Majerus players had all moved on. So he inherited a tournament team and then when his players got on campus it was clear they were not at that level. There was literally no question as to whether Crews should be fired as nobody could defend him any longer. There was little way a fan could see things trending in the right direction with Crews and his players (there was also some internal turmoil between Crews and his players).
With KA he inherited a roster that was in a rough spot and failed with that roster in year #1 and then a combination of players he inherited/recruited late in the 2014 class/recruited in the 2015 class. In year #3 we are just now seeing a roster of his players, so most fans understood the decision to give him this season. If he fails again this season, nobody will be able to defend KA.
So we are essentially a year behind where Crews and SLU were at. Assuming similar results on the court, I fully expect that the same decision will be made. I just hope we do it quickly and identify our next coach quickly similar to SLU.
