I would submit the disappointing aspect is characterizing 'Our inability to be successful' as the 23 win, 6th place SEC finish in 2013-14 in relation to being very excited about this upcoming season when there isn't anyone who would remotely feel that is within the realm of possibility this year. That season we beat UCLA, won our Big12/SEC matchup, won SEC road games, and nearly defeated Kentucky and you describe it as an inability to be successful. It was disappointing in the normal context of an MU season, but would be welcomed as a miracle at this point.
I do think you hit on a crucial point in that all of the talent outflow occurred with players who perception of what MU was as a program was vastly different to what it actually became and that disconnect effected effort/buy in/respect. We now have a roster of players who at least at face value should be amazed they are getting this opportunity and whose expectations are much more closely aligned to what MU basketball is today. Hopefully if nothing else that allows for more competitiveness and fight.
