Lets assume that Kim doesn’t hit the ground running with a pre-conceived notion that he needs to distance himself from the perception that Haith relied on transfers. He sells Punter on the need to replace the scoring/leadership of his departed juniors to the NBA and makes him feel like a priority using his connections to State Fair CC. He accepts Danuel House under the same premise of needing ready to contribute big time talent to fill the void of departing Clarkson/Brown. That likely means we don’t sign either Isabell or Allen.
His first roster of primary rotation contributors at MU would have been:
PG: Shamburger (SR), Clark (SO)
SG: Punter (JR), Wright (FR)
SF: House (JR), Gill Ceasar (FR)
PF: JW3 (SO), Gant (FR)
C: Post (SR), Rosburg (JR)
Pretty upper class dominated and allows the freshman to grow into their D1 roles. Lets assume an adequate level of coaching in the offseason, game prep, and in tactical approach and offensive design in year 1. Probably somewhere between 18-21 wins that season, with a positive uptick and optimism around the program.
Then we could have actually gotten some recruiting momentum and fan support. Probably be looking at a roster something like this last year:
PG: Punter (SR), Clark (JR), Phillips (FR)
SG: Wright (SO), Blakeney (FR)
SF: House (SR), Gill Ceasar (SO)
PF: JW3 (JR), Gant (SO), Woods (JR)
C: Bryant (FR), ‘graduate transfer’ (SR), Rosburg (SR)
Again assuming even avg coaching that would be difficult to foresee that not being an NCAA tourney team, probably in the neighborhood of 24-26 wins. Again, great roster balance and high level talent at all positions.
With the addition of Tate, assuming a normal head coach, you almost certainly land Tyler Cook for this class and Fulford continues to build on the now established Huntington Prep pipeline of players to bring in a couple more of those guys for 2016-17. You are basically a virtual lock in this scenario to land Michael Porter Jr, and likely in reasonable position to couple him with Jeremiah Tilmon for that class.
Its not naive at all to think a different approach would have also failed.
