political parties and government services

Political parties have varying ideologies or guiding principles by which they consider policy.
Unfortunately, those sometimes get in the way of the actual provision of basic government services that citizens come to expect (and I might add deserve).
You could talk about either political party and their ideology for quite some time (conspiracy theories excepted) and not talk about things like trash removal, bus services, snow removal, etc etc.
Yet our votes have massive implications in that we vote for the people who will be in charge of the people in charge of those services.
It's easy for one side to point fingers at the other in this case, as California at large and LA also have essentially been controlled by one party for a number of years. It could just as easily be the other way around.
It's a shame that politics gets in the way of competence.
